Isle Royale
My first visit to Isle Royale was a group hike in 2019. We overnighted at ECB and day hiked to McCargoe Cove. I remember someone saying, we needed to come back here.
In 2025, I spent two nights at cozy shelter #8 at McCargoe Cove as part of a two-week, 100+ mile Isle Royale adventure. The first week was spent hiking with my older brother Ryan. We hiked the Feldtmann Lake Trail and Huginnin Cove Trail while enjoying the sights and sounds about Windigo. During the second half, I successfully solo hiked the Minong Ridge Trail to McCargoe Cove and finally onto Rock Harbor. It was an excellent trip.
Most recently, I returned in 2026 for a 5-day hike, plus 4-day botany workshop adventure. The round trip included seaplane flights to and from the Isle, a water taxi ride to Hidden Lake, overnights at a few popular sites and 40+ miles of world class hiking. The botany workshop was arranged by the Isle Royale Keweenaw Parks Association. Easily one of the best trips I’ve ever done – most excellent!
Isle Royale is a very special place. I hope you enjoy the photos I captured.
Trail Bending is…
Exploring Isle Royale, one sunset, one bridge, one ridge, one wolf paw print, one photo, one signed book, one island adventure, and one badass solid step at a time.
